Happy 24 weeks to Jada Reese!

Thank you for wanting to be part of our little miracle-in-progress! We welcome you into sharing the journey with us. We’ve been overwhelmed by the incredible support and prayers, from neighbors, co-workers, family, friends and our church community from all over the world. Although we haven’t returned many phone calls and emails, please know that we cherish each one. We will be updating this often with pictures, videos and stories of Jada’s daily progress. Please feel free to pass it on to other prayer warriors!

According to the neonatoligist, Jada is progressing amazingly well, and they remain optimistic about serving her needs. Although she is critically ill, she has proven in the last seventy-two hours to be, pound-for-pound, one of the toughest fighters in the world (in the words of our Senior Pastor). She obviously had a tough delivery, but her bruising and swelling has healed tremendously in the last twenty-four hours. The greatest concern right now is her ability to breathe, but she has improved significantly in the past few days. After getting help with nitric oxide, she has now been completely weaned and is breathing without the aid. Although she has the breathing tube, Jada continues to try to breathe on her own. Even though she can’t, the fact that she is trying is a huge positive that shows Jada’s fighting spirit. Her blood pressure has stabilized. Doctors are  focused at the moment on a brain scan to look for blood in the brain. We should get results on that in the next day. Jada is getting daily blood transfusions, and she is responding really well. She has been on antibiotics since  birth to fight the infection that took her sister’s life (and Allie is still fighting), and so far she has shown no signs of being infected.

My beautiful bride, Allie, is recovering well. Her heart is heavy but remains so close to God. We’re obviously really sad about Reese, but we feel so blessed to have had even twenty minutes together with her.  Allie’s fever is under control, she’s on her last antibiotics, and she’s able to walk around on her own. We think we may leave the hospital tomorrow (on Saturday).

Because Allie’s symptoms are under  control, Allie was allowed to go back to the NICU last night, to spend time with Jada, hold her hand, change her diaper, and take her temperature. It was a beautiful thing. We can tell from her vital signs that Jada gets really excited when she hears Allie’s voice and feels her touch. The main thing Jada can do is smell her mommy, so the nurses give Allie blankets to hold and then they give them back to Jada for comfort. We are so in love with our baby girl and have grown so attached to her already.

I also want to share with you the verse that God used to get me through Tuesday.

James 1: 2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete and not lacking anything.”

We’ll be updating regularly, so be sure to check back soon. And please continue to pray for our little girl!

    I love, love, love so many things about what you said David! My favs…..Allie with her daughter…precious site!!!!
    Your scripture verse…….
    I have a similar favorite one I would like to share with you…….
    It begins……..Romans 5:1-
    Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God throught our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.
    (I love this part)
    vs. 3 Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character; and character, hope.
    (listen to this)
    vs. 5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
    HOPE:}
    Love that!!!!
    The two of you are loved and I will continue to pray and lift you, Allie and Jada up multiple times throughout my day.
